Question 6

Question 6
“What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?”
During the process of constructing our product Psychosis we learnt several things about using different technologies throughout the production of our film. In pre-production we used Celtx to produce separate scripts for each scene and then at the end of the process, we used it again to produce a script for the entire two minutes of our product. While Celtx was generally an easy programme to get the hang of and produced realistic looking scripts, I was sometimes confused by having to swap between different categories each time I wanted to type something new. For example, you would have to manually click ‘character’ each time a character spoke yet when you wanted to change to a stage direction you then had to find that category to do so. This made the process of writing a script quite time consuming.
The camera we used to film everything – including character profiles – was the Panasonic HC-V270. The quality of this camera enabled us to perfect techniques such as including focus pulls and shallow focuses due to the camera having a good depth of field. The camera was generally easy to use and we did not have any problems in figuring out the basics. To record the audio for a phone call that goes on in the film we used the iPhone 6 voice recorder to imitate that she is on the phone to another character.

To edit our finished product we used Final Cut Express. The programme was familiar to us as we had used it previously to edit something we filmed earlier in the year. However, this time we were able to do more on the programme such as editing the sound and adding in fast editing.
