Question 5
How did you
attract/address your audience?
When we were planning
our film Psychosis, our target audience was people generally between the ages
of 15 and 30 that have an interest in Psychological horrors. We aimed to
address this particular audience by making the character somewhat relatable, we
used a family setting and included Sisters having a conversation about their
health and their mother, some people would find this relatable.
We also tried to
attract the audience by including spooky and strange sound effects, fast pace
editing and low key lighting to make it obvious that it is a horror film. For
example some of the shots that would attract the audience that we aimed for
are:
After we finished filming and editing, we uploaded our final
film to YouTube to get feedback. We created a questionnaire to find out whether
we reached our target audience or not, 20 people responded after watching our 2
minute film on YouTube. Results from the questionnaire shows that 100% of the
people that participated enjoyed the 2 minute film, 90% said they would watch
the whole film if it was distributed. One of the participants said “I don’t
usually watch horror films, but I feel like if I watched the whole film I’d
enjoy it. It looks really intense and scary”. According to our audience
feedback, the shots that we included in our film are ‘great’ and add the horror
effect.
However, the 20% of the audience failed to recognise that
our main character Jennifer had mental health issues, this may be due to the
lack of scary fast pace editing. In future, to improve the film we would
include more fast pace editing and scary effects, such as these from various
horror films:
The Silence of the
Lambs: Poltergeist:
(Extreme close up) (Low key lighting with extreme light to add effect)
