Treatment (whole film)
Film Name: Psychosis
Duration of Film: 2 hours
Distributor: Brink Vision
Certificate: Age 12, this is due to the fact that there are
scary scenes in the film such as the dark figure following our main character,
Jennifer. However the film isn’t a 15 due to the fact that the film isn’t that
scary to cause any disturbances to the audience.
Audience details: The typical age group for the audience of
our film is Teenagers, as they’re very interested in horror and exciting films.
The gender of the audience is very mixed as the film isn’t particularly aimed
at a specific gender. The audience generally have an interest in horror and
mystery.
Summary of film: The main character Jennifer suffers from
mental illnesses, such as paranoia and insomnia. She sees things in her mind
that aren’t actually there. She sees even some of her friends and family as
threats in her mind. She decides to meet her friend to talk about her on-going
paranoia. She hears things and sees things and starts running from things that aren’t
there. She then sees a dark mysterious figure that follows her through the
woods before she meets her friend. The figure gets closer to her and she falls
on the ground in shock. She looks up to see her friend running towards her in
the distance, however the next time she looks it is actually the mysterious
figure. Jennifer runs away from the figure and runs home without explaining to
her friend what happened. The next day jennifer attends college, she heard about a new student coming that day, she sees the back of the character throughout the day, however in her last period she notices that the new student is actually the dark figure, she runs home in shock. She stays in her house for weeks on end, not
attending college or seeing any people besides her mother and sister. Whenever
she looks through the windows she sees the mysterious figure. Later in the film
her mother decides to take Jennifer to the doctors, Jennifer battles all she
can to not leave the house but her mother wins. She doesn’t open her eyes
through the whole car journey and when she’s finished at the doctors with prescribed
medicine, she goes outside after having a minor panic attack, on herself. She
sees the dark figure through trees and runs even though she can’t see anything
due to seeing things in her mind. Jennifer collapses and ends up in a coma.
Suggested elements: Our film contains a large variety of
shots and angles, giving the film a unique selling point. All apart from our ‘mysterious
figure’ wears regular every day clothing, meaning the audience can relate to
them. The costume and makeup of the dark figure means you can distinguish the
difference between reality and fantasy. The colour theme throughout the movie
is dark, implying it is a horror film. The film includes a large amount of jump
cuts suggesting that Jennifer’s life isn’t stable.
