‘Easily the best horror film of 2014. But bolstered by knockout performances, and a mind-bending narrative, The Babadook is so much more. It's one of the best films of the year.’ http://www.cinemablend.com/reviews/Babadook-66403.html
‘While
The Babadook is a well-crafted, insightful, and overall excellent film, it's
not going to be for everyone’ http://screenrant.com/babadook-movie-reviews/
Due to the high success of the Australian based horror film (rated 5/5 from The Guardian and a 98% rating from Rotten Tomatoes) and the lack of films that seem to follow this type of theme, we began to develop on the idea of having a character in our own film that does not know if the paranormal things that are happening to her are real or not. After watching the film as a group and taking notes, we began to realise that us as the audience also had to make our minds up whether we thought that the character was really experiencing these things or if it was just in her head. This seemed like an effective technique in keeping the audience interested in the film – The Babadook left us wanting to watch more and analyse what was happening to her in order for us to work out whether the things happening to her was real or not.

Most critics of the film regard
Paranormal Activity as a genuine horror film that reels in the audience with
its original scare tactics such as setting up stationary cameras in the home
and in some cases is even referred to as an ‘honourable’ film.
‘The film's scare factor precedes it but Paranormal Activity
isn't just a cheap thrill, it's an honourable production that easily trumps
other films’ http://www.cinemablend.com/reviews/Paranormal-Activity-4276.html
‘Paranormal Activity is an ingenious little horror film, so well made it's truly
scary’ http://www.rogerebert.com/reviews/paranormal-activity-2009
While Paranormal Activity isn't entirely similar to our film, the idea of paranormal beings haunting a family home links in with our idea of something haunting our main character Jennifer. We incorporated some of the shots that are used in Paranormal Activity such as something quickly flashing past the camera to create shock and terror amongst the audience.
